It’s been 3 months now since we are all back to working from home, most of us at least, and we can’t help ignore the fact that even though things are pretty rough in the country right now, the work never stops and there you are everyday reporting to work without fail and attending those endless zoom meetings. While most of us prefer working in the comfort of our homes , here are some unspoken facts or rather problems which we need to start talking about now, since this is our new normal!

  1. The consciousness of having beautiful homes:

I have a friend who lives in a one room kitchen house with a family of 3 and while she sits and watches the beautiful aesthetics of her colleague’s home on the zoom meetings, she gets conscious and starts using her aunt’s home who has a villa but never mentions that it’s her aunt’s home. This fear, this consciousness is legit. People who live in a smaller apartments or don’t have aesthetic walls feel the complex they shouldn’t. If you’re facing this today, my dear trust me nobody is going to judge you or your home. It’s your personal little space and no matter how dull you think it is, it’s not. It’s okay though to feel how you feel, but do not let it overpower you and make you think that you’re any less. You sit proudly tomorrow from your home and your home only and kill it at work!

2. The constant urge to sleep:

No I’m not talking about naps. I’m talking about sleep. Like leave all work and sleep! This usually happens due to lack of motivation to work or because your work was more required on the field and now you’re left with work which is not exactly your job and you do it anyway but with no interest. Most of us will agree with this one and here are some solutions for you. Create a playlist on spotify with the mood you like. I have personally created 5 playlists. One to feel energetic, one when I wanna feel calm, one when I feel demotivated, one when I feel sassy and one when I feel lonely and I miss the outside world. Listen to it while working, sing along, it helps keep you hooked to work. Another solution is to change your places at home. Sit on the balcony with a nice view and a cup of tea then switch to the hall, then switch to the bedroom. This will help you feel less boring and will save you a hell load of backpain. Create a checklist and scribble it at the end of the day it feels damn good! And lastly, power naps in the afternoon are powerful, go for it ☺

3. Hygiene issues:

Here’s one fact nobody talks about ever! Personal hygiene and the hygiene of your workspace at home. So many of us wake up just 15 -30 mins before the morning calls and all we do is brush. Come back in haste and sit down for hours in the clothes of the previous day till afternoon and then there’s a deadline and we do not shower till 3- 5pm! We sit in those sweaty clothes, we smell but we are used to it. We sweat more and then we eat and keep the plates right there for mom to pick it up and then no time to clean the desk, so all the wires are scattered, there’s dust and you’re basically not sitting in the comfort of your homes but in the comfort of dirt. Don’t do this. Wake an hour early, bathe and feel fresh. It feels good being this fresh and clean. Detangle those wires, make space and put some cool things on your desk. Give your desk a wipe just like how your housekeeping at work does it without fail everyday. Understand that the cleaner and fresh you and your workspace is, the more motivated you are to do more at work everyday.

While this was a long read, the only purpose of this was to give you tips on how to feel better about working from home. How much ever we dread it, this is exactly how we are safe today, most of us, because we chose to stay at home, and keep others safe too. Stay motivated, keep hustling and don’t forget to hydrate!
